Get Single Status Certificate in Himachal Pradesh: A Single Status Certificate is an official government document and proof that one has never been married and is eligible to marry someone (according to the law of that particular country) in any country.

In a nutshell, Single Status Certificate is a legal certificate that proves an individual is unmarried.

Different names of Single Status Certificates:

This certificate has different names in different countries.

  1. Single Status Certificate or
  2. Celibacy certificate or 
  3. Nulla Osta Certificate or 
  4. Certificate Of No Marriage or 
  5. Bachelorhood certificate or 
  6. A marriage Eligibility certificate or 
  7. singlehood certificate or 
  8. certificate of no impediment, and so on.

In Himachal Pradesh, it is called a Certificate Of No Marriage Record. It is widely abbreviated as CENOMR. It is known as Unmarried Certificate. It is issued by the concerned state governments and apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Reasons for getting Single Status Certificate in Himachal Pradesh:

  1. Various countries demand Single Status Certificates from foreign nationals as proof that they have never been married and are eligible to marry.
  2. This certificate is necessary to prove that he/she has no living spouse.
  3. This certificate is necessary to marry a foreign citizen.
  4. Any alien can get citizenship if they married a citizen of that country(depending on that country’s law). In that case, this certificate is an essential document.
  5. This certificate is a check to polygamy.
  6. This certificate will prevent illegal marriages.
  7. While migrating to any foreign country for work, family men/women will get some benefits, and bachelors will get some benefits. This certificate will help to distinguish bachelors and family men/women.
  8. This certificate is also required for a second marriage if the former spouse is divorced.
  9. This certificate is also required for a second marriage if the former spouse dies.
  10. Some countries demand this certificate for the employment visa process.

Documents required for Getting a Single Status Certificate in Himachal Pradesh:

  1. Photo
  2. Address proof – Ration card/ Bank passbook/ Rental agreement/ Voter ID/Passport
  3. Age proof – Birth certificate/ Aadhar card
  4. Parent’s documents like Aadhar card/ voter ID
  5. Self-declaration of applicant or Affidavit. In Himachal Pradesh, no specific authority exists to issue a Single Status Certificate. So the affidavit should be in Stamp paper and signed by a magistrate or a notary public.
  6. Passport or visa 
  7. In case of divorce, then divorce decree is required
  8. In the case of a widow, the death certificate of the former spouse is necessary.

Procedure to get a Single Status Certificate:

Some State Governments like Tamilnadu issue an unmarried certificate that is necessary for marriage in religious places like temples and to get various benefits provided by the government for marriage like Gold coin, Lump Sum amount, and so on. 

In that case, one should apply for an unmarried certificate with above said documents in Common Service Centres(CSC)

  1. Should apply in CSC and pay the fee
  2. Village Administrative Officer will do verification and then forwarded it to Thashildar 
  3. Then verified by Thashildar and finally signed by the Sub-divisional magistrate.
  4. Download through the online portal.

Single Status Certificate needed to marry a foreigner, or for visa process, certificate should be apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Process of Single Status Certificate attestation:

Prepare the Single Status Certificate on Stamp paper per government guidelines and required documents.

1. Get a Notary Public to notarize your document. The certificate must be attested to be genuine. It comes with a sticker and a sign. It is the first step towards obtaining a Single Status Certificate.

2. Your state’s designated authority must receive your notarized Single Status Certificate. 

The certificate will be verified and signed by the authority. The State Home Department performs the verification.

3. The sub-district magistrate will sign the certificate after verifying it.

4. Send a copy of your passport and other required documents to the Ministry of External Affairs with the Single Status affidavit. 

5. Pay the apostille fee. 

An affidavit to single status in Himachal Pradesh must be authenticated and apostille by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). A Single Status Certificate can be legalized this way.

  6. It is crucial to remember that the attestation procedure could vary based on the particular demands of the destination country, institution, or organization requesting the certified certificate.

Format of Single Status Certificate

  1. Similar in structure, a single status certificate contains the necessary details to verify a person’s marital status. Although the exact arrangement may change, it often contains:

  3. Personal information: The certificate contains the person’s full name, birthdate, nationality, and address.
  4. Marital Status: This indicates if the person is single, unmarried, or not part of a legally recognized partnership.
  5. Previous Marriages: Details of any prior marriages or registered partnerships, including information on divorce or dissolution, may be mentioned if appropriate.
  6. Issuing Authority: The certificate is issued by the appropriate government agency, which may be recognized by their name, seal, and signature on official documents.
  7. Date and Reference Number: The certificate has a unique reference number for identification and the date it was issued.
