Marriage Registration – Gurgaon

A Marriage Certificate is a certificate that proves relation between husband and wife. Marriage certificate is issued by district marriage registrar, as per religious marriage and special marriage acts.

Currently, there are two marriage registration acts under which marriage certificate is issued :

The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 : When marriage is already solemnized where Husband and Wife are Hindus, Buddhists, Jain or Sikhs or when they are converted into any of these religions, they will be considered under these registration Act.

The Special Marriage Act, 1954 : Whereas, this act lay down the procedure for both solemnization and registration of marriage certificate where either of the party or both are not Hindus, Buddhists, Jain or Sikhs.

You can register your marriage in Gurgaon under Hindu Marriage Act 1955 irrespective of creed , cast and religion . If you are getting married in accordance to the Hindu Marriage Act you can perform the rituals and then apply for registration of the marriage. The Hindu Marriage Act provides for registration of an already solemnized marriage. No need to get the wedding solemnized in the presence of a Registrar. The Hindu Marriage Act is applicable in cases where both husband and wife are  Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains or Hindus, and where they have changed into any of these religions. For registration minimum age of marriage for men as 21 years and for womenGirl as 18 years.In 2006, Supreme Court has made registration of marriage compulsory to protect interest of women.

i The Girl should be of twenty-one (21) years and Boy should be of eighteen (18) years of age.

ii The parties should not be of unsoundness of mind of such a nature as to be unable to give   valid consent for    the marriage, or suffering from mental disorder of such a kind or to such an extent as to be unfit for marriage and  procreation of children, or has been subject to recurrent attacks of insanity.

iii The parties should not fall within the degree of prohibited relationship.

1. Aadhar Card and /or Voter Card of Bride and Groom

2. Age Proof of Bride and Groom ( Any one ) – Birth Proof / 10th Pass Document / Driving License / Passport

3. Address Proof of Bride and Groom ( Any One ) – Voter Card / Driving License / Passport / Bank Passbook with photograph

4. Marriage Invitation Card or Marriage Document of Gurudwara /Temple.

5. 5-5 Passport Size photos of Husband & Wife.

6. 2 Witnesses with Pan Card and Address Proof.

7. Divorce Decree in case of any or both Bride and Groom are divorcee.

8. Death Proof / Document of previous spouse in case of widow or widower.

9. In case of foreign national NOC / No impediment from concerned embassy.

10.Valid VISA and residence proof in case of foreign national.

11.Conversion proof document in case of Non Hindu

i Submit the application in the prescribed form along with the necessary documents in the court of the Marriage Officer (Addl. District Magistrate, Collectorate).

ii The Court will get all the declarations of the parties verified, and shall register the marriage in the presence of four  witnesses.

iii The marriage registration certificate will be issued after the registration of the marriage
