A duplicate RC can be issued by the Regional Transport Authority in case if someone loses the original RC. Firstly, you must lodge a complaint about the lost RC in the nearest Police Station.

The owner of the vehicle must submit an application to the RTO for the issuance of a duplicate RC. If the RC gets Mutilated or Faded, a duplicate RC can be issued in such a case.

Another thing to note here is that if the vehicle is covered under Finance/Hire Purchase/Lease, the signature of the Financer is also required on Form 26 for the issuance of the duplicate RC

Porcedure to Transfer Ownership in Registration Certificate

To transfer the ownership of a vehicle an application must be made to the concerned Registration Office where the vehicle is originally registered. The following documents must be submitted along with the application-

  • RC or Registration certificate (Original)
  • Duly filled Form 29 along with a duplicate copy (Anyone of the copy must be attested)
  • Duly filled Form 30 along with a duplicate copy
  • Copy of insurance document (Attested)
  • Copy of proof of addresser to whom the vehicle is needed to be transferred (Attested)
  • Copy of PUC or Pollution Under Control Certificate (Attested)
  • Applicable Fee Payment
  • Attested copy of PAN Card or Form 60 & 61 (as required)

Transfer of Vehicle Ownership in case of Death of the Registered Owner

In case of the death of the vehicle’s owner, the application for re-registration must be made by the legal heirs of the deceased vehicle owner. The documents required for the process are listed below-

  • Original RC or Registration certificate
  • Form 30 and Form 31 with duplicate copies
  • NOC from the financier if the vehicle was purchased through finance
  • Death certificate of the original owner for verification
  • Legal Heir or the person getting the succession Certificate issued by the competent authority
  • Affidavit by the applicant and from the other heirs relinquishing the right in favour of the applicant
  • Attested copy of insurance document
  • Attested copy of proof of addresser to whom the vehicle needs to be transferred
  • Attested copy of PUC (Pollution Under Control) Certificate
  • Payment of applicable fee
  • Attested photocopy of PAN Card or Form 60 & 61(as required)
  • Verification of vehicle on Form 20

For Commercial Vehicle

In case of a commercial vehicle, some additional documents are required. Take a list of the documents below-

  • Document of permit surrender
  • Challan clearance from the Traffic department and enforcement department
  • Fitness Certificate
  • Tax clearance certificate from the concerned authority
