Pan stands for Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a ten-digit alphanumeric number, issued in the form of a card, by the Income Tax Department.
It is a unique, 10-character alpha-numeric identifier, issued to all judicial entities identifiable under the Indian Income Tax Act, 1961. The Income Tax PAN code and its linked card are issued under Section 139A of the Income Tax Act
It also serves as an identity proof. Once PAN card is issued, it remains valid for the entire life of the PAN card holder. The primary objective of PAN is to use a universal identification key to track financial transactions that might have a taxable component to prevent tax evasion
