At the moment there are two marriage registration acts under which the marriage certificate is issued:
The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 which states that, “When marriage is already solemnized where Husband and Wife are Hindus, Buddhists, Jain or Sikhs or when they are converted into any of these religions, they will be considered under these registration Act.”
The Special Marriage Act, 1954 which states that “Whereas, this act lay down the procedure for both solemnization and registration of marriage certificate where either of the party or both are not Hindus, Buddhists, Jain or Sikhs.”

Criteria for Marriage Registration in Delhi
For acquiring marriage certificate in Delhi, there are certain criteria must be fulfilled. Here is a list
- Both the Boy and the Girl must be an Indian Citizen.
- The Boy must be 21 years in age or above.
- The Girl must be 18 years in age or above.
